Putting Your Baby To Sleep
There are many ways you can be successful in putting your baby to sleep. It may take a great deal of patience and won’t happen overnight but success is within reach. By maintaining a loving attitude and following some basic rules you will find that babies sleep patterns can become more regular, helping you to have a normal life and get the rest that you need too.
Try to create a secure environment that helps sleep to envelope the child. Your baby needs to develop a healthy attitude when it comes to sleep. Lots of issues in children who are older and in adults come from when children were growing up. They have developed the idea that sleep is unpleasant and going to be was something to fear.
Consider any changes that can be to the family lifestyle that will allow you to meet the baby’s needs. You can’t change their behavior overnight. Instead try to make slight alterations to behavior leading to your desired goal.
You control the situation so think about ways to alter how your baby reacts. Ideas include creating a time at night where there is a completely relaxed environment. This means no phones or internet, just quiet time, helping the whole family bond and encourage slumber.
It will help if you get the child used to a range of things associated with slumber. The way they go to sleep one night is the same way they expect things to occur the next night. If you always rock your child to help them doze off you will need to be consistent with this. Try to keep this is varied as possible as it allows several options if one thing isn’t working, for whatever reason. Singing, storytelling and even dimming the lights can have a positive effect.
Make timings of naps and sleeps consistent and carry out similar rituals when it’s the right time. Babies who are treated consistently in this regard usually find it much easier to develop a sleeping pattern and generally are rested for longer. Due to work and other stresses this may be difficult to achieve but it is vital to set goals and try and stick to them.
Feedings need to be times to help this pattern emerge. They should be fed, then bathed before the rituals leading to night time rest happen. This way baby won’t be tempted to wake you up for a feed until they have slept for a long time. Children vary in their requirements in this area but aim to set up a routine that works for everyone.
Consider the temperature of the sleeping area as something you can work on to increase the chances of getting things right. Putting a warm baby on top of sheets which are cold can lead to a bad reaction, particularly in winter. Use a heater or hairdryer to warm them up. Check the temperature with the skin on the elbow then and place them on warmer sheets increasing their comfort and making them more likely to rest peacefully.
